Hi! We are Carolina and Inés, and we’re spending a whole month living in Michigan with a host family as part of an incredible cultural exchange. Here’s a little reflection about our unforgettable last week!
Let’s talk about everything we’ve experienced during these final days. One of the main events of the week was going to the Ionia Fair. Our host family owns goats, and they had been getting them ready for a competition for the past seven months. We got to see how much care and effort goes into raising and training them, and we even helped a little with the preparation! It was so exciting to see the goats compete—and even more exciting when some of them won prizes!
Another memorable evening was when we went out to dinner at a Chinese restaurant to celebrate our host dad’s birthday. The whole family came along, and during dinner, we got to watch a show with fire tricks and impressive chef skills right at the table! We had never seen anything like it before. It was both delicious and fun.
Each day, we’ve been going on adventures around the property. We ride quads through the trails and explore the forest, which feels like something out of a movie. In Spain, it’s rare to have this kind of nature experience so close to home, so we’ve really appreciated every moment. We also went horseback riding through the woods and even crossed a river on horseback—it was magical!
On Sunday, we had a special trip to Lake Michigan. The lake was so big it looked like the sea! We drove through sand dunes that were incredibly beautiful. Afterward, the family surprised us by taking us to a small amusement park, where we laughed non-stop riding bumper boats and racing on go-karts.
Our experience in Michigan has been unforgettable. We’ve learned so much, tried so many new things, and felt truly welcomed. Our host family has treated us like part of the family. We’d rate this adventure a 10 out of 10—it’s something we’ll remember forever!
